EYFS
Welcome to Early Years!
“Play is often talked about as if it is a relief from serious learning. But for children, play IS serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”
In EYFS, we understand that children learn well through a mixture of both play and adult directed activities. We look carefully and children’s starting points and plan activities to help all children reach their full potential and to ensure they are ready for their next stage of learning.
As a team of staff, we aim to work in close partnership with parents and carers to ensure all children accessing our provision begin to build the foundations of their learning journey in a safe, happy and nurturing environment.
We base our learning around the 3 prime areas:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
And the 3 specific areas:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
We follow the Little Wandle phonics scheme to teach children the letters and sounds they will use to become successful readers and writers. In Nursery, we use Foundations for Phonics, which helps children become attuned to sounds in the environment and also focuses on learning nursery rhymes. In Reception, children learn Phase 2, 3 and 4 sounds.
