Miss Critchlow and Mrs Young are our Year 5 teachers, and they are supported by Miss Roddam. Miss Critchlow teaches Year 5 Birch and Mrs Young teaches Year 5 Lime.

Year 5 have been writing diary entries based on the characters in our class novel ‘Who Let the God’s Out?’ written by Maz Evans. Miss Edgar decided to get in touch with best selling Author Maz via Twitter and guess what?… SHE REPLIED!read more
Last week, as part of our topic and literacy work, Year 5 held a debate about which city would be best to live in: Athens or Sparta. We came up with some very interesting arguments and worked in small groups (as a team) to promote our views.read more
On Monday this week, Mrs Nugent led KS1 and KS2 in two ‘Rights Respecting School’ assemblies – where the theme of ‘difference’ was considered to recognise the importance of celebrating the wonderful diversity within our school, families and community.read more

This term in science, Year 5 have been learning about the Solar System. We decided to set up our own model (using fruit and some toilet paper!) to investigate one of the questions which we came up with – ‘How far away are the planets from the Sun?’read more
Sixteen of our Year 5/6 athletes competed at Thorp Academy on 10th November 2017, in a range of track and field athletics festival events – including hurdles, relays, speed bounce, javelin and more!
We did fabulous and came 3rd overall. Well done to all our athletes!

This week, two of our local police officers (PC Neale and his colleague) dropped in to talk to our Year 6 about responsible use of ICT / social media. They also very kindly took the time to speak with other pupils in the yard and during lunch! It was great to meet them!read more
As part of our whole school ‘Art Week’ initiative led by Mrs Young, this week all of our children have had great fun creating a range of ‘artistic masterpieces’ to showcase to parents at our school Art Exhibition on Wednesday 1st November 2017!read more
Our wonderful Year 5/6 football team played in the county finals in Sunderland on Tuesday and came 2nd! Over 200 teams entered the competition so they did really well. Don’t they look smart in their new strips?!read more
