Dear Parents, Carers and the community of Winlaton,

Welcome to Winlaton West Lane Community Primary School where we believe we have something very special and all staff, children, parents and Governors strive to REACH FOR THE STARS! I am very proud to be the Headteacher of a school with such awe-inspiring children, dedicated staff and supportive parents and carers.

Staff and Governors helped to create our vision statement for our wonderful school which is based on a happy, inclusive school which exudes an ethos of opportunity for all: children, staff, Governors, Parents and the wider community of Winlaton. It is an ethos that enables our children to take responsibility and become a brilliant workforce of the future.

Winlaton West Lane Community Primary endeavours to be a forward-thinking school with high expectations of teaching and learning, behaviour and team work. We aspire to be outstanding in all areas of school life.

Year 1 ‘map’ their way around local landmarks…

Year 1 Chestnut showed off their excellent geographical / fieldwork skills and their knowledge of maps and directions this week, to create individual maps of Winlaton.

Year 1 investigate some ‘shady’ seasonal changes…

Year 1 have been investigating and observing plants – noticing how the trees are beginning to change colour as the weather becomes colder…

Year 1 ‘mash’ their way through coding!

In Computing lessons with Miss Westgarth, Year 1 have been developing their coding skills – learning how to use and read through combined blocks of code, using the ‘Purple Mash 2Code’ program.
Some pupils were so confident with their coding skills, that they were even able to ‘debug’ some of the more challenging and complex coding activities – demonstrating their skills to the rest of the class…

Year 4 ‘tag’ their way to terrific rugby playing!

In PE with Miss Westgarth this half-term, Year 4 have had great fun learning how to play Tag Rugby – developing their skills in passing, defending and attacking; alongside their decision-making and team working! 

West Lane are winners of the Blaydon & District 7-a-side cup!

We Won! We Won! 
West Lane footballers played an astounding match and are now the winners of the Blaydon & District 7-a-side cup – the first time EVER that the cup has been retained for a second year by a school! We are now through to The Daniel O’Hare Cup, to be played in Sunderland next week!

Nursery welcome some very unusual visitors!

This week, Nursery had some very important visitors come in to meet us! We had a visit from a lady called Sophie from Zoo Lab, she introduced us to her friends; 2 giant cockroaches, an African snail, a tarantula, a tortoise and a corn snake!

Our Endangered Earth…

In topic, Year 6 have been looking at our ‘Endangered Earth.’ We decided to take part in a science experiment – to see if we could spend a minimal amount of money trying to clean our own polluted ocean…
