Sports Premium

At Winlaton West Lane Community Primary School, we believe that Physical Education and sport have a vital role to play in the physical and emotional health and well-being of our children and families. Our aim is that through an embedded culture of sport and physical activity children will enjoy being active and that this will lead to life-long participation.

Sports funding

Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6. Schools with 16 or fewer eligible pupils receive £1,000 per pupil. Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil. The PE and sport premium is designed to help schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer pupils. In the 2023/24 academic year we received a grant of £19,100. There was no carry over from the previous year.

How will we spend our allocation at West Lane?

In line with Ofsted recommendations, our Sport Premium Funding is to be spent addressing improvements in each of the following 5 key areas:

  • Increase the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5-18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school.
  • The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement.
  • Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
  • Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
  • Increased participation in competitive sport.

The grant in 2023/24 was £19,100. How this was allocated is set out in the 23-24 report, also linked below.
