Wow! What a fantastic trip to Whitby! We had the most incredible 2 days away, and learnt a lot of things (even if we didn’t think we did!) such as: communication; independence; resilience, team work and problem solving.
On Monday, we split into 2 groups. One group built long boats, whilst the others explored the local area of Whitby. Longboat building involved us having to use our problem solving and communication skills. We were given a diagram, and the parts of the boat and our leader had to instruct us on how to build it. Great leader skills by: Christos, Dale, Emily and Hannah who showed great perseverance when leading their team in building the boat. We also explored the 199 steps to see if there really are 199 steps! After much deliberation and investigating, it turns out that there really are 199 steps! That evening, we explored some Viking weapons and their purposes. It was fascinating to see what they would be used for.
After little sleep (mostly from the girls!) we spent Tuesday morning scrutinising the beach for fossils and for objects found in the sea. We also loved playing on the beach and getting some very wet shoes! Heading home we felt exhausted, exhilarated and emotional (depressed to be leaving!).
Well done to all of Year 5, and thank you for a fantastic time away!
